Needleless (Non-Invasive) Lipodissolve using Iontophoresis

History

Lipodissolve is an extension of Mesotherapy, which started in France in the 1950′s by Dr. Pastor and was continued by Dr. LeCoz. It is used throughout France and now is being tried around the world. The approach is to inject nutrients and medications below the skin for cosmetic treatments and sports injuries.

Dr Patricia Rittes M.D. in San Paulo, Brazil has treated 26,000 patients injecting Phosphydyl Choline and Dioxycholase to dissolve fat. Phosphytyl Choline and Deoxycholine (PC/DC), are Bile compounds that emulsify lipids. They are derived from soy and are preserved with Benzyl Alcohol.
PC/DC is used topically in hundreds of cosmetic formulations, orally to decrease Cholesterol, and intra-venously to:

• increase insulin sensitivity and HDL
• decrease plaque, LDL and Triglycerides
• stabilize cell membranes and protect the mitochondria

Present
Numerous studies have been done on the effects of Lipodissolve. (click to see you tube lipodissolve video)  A summary of the results follows. Note: Studies have only been done on healthy people with a BMI less that 30%. Also, some researchers go only by photos and clothing fit due to the problems of measurements.
• A recent survey of 1000 Physicians who do Lipodisolve using needles showed an average of 3.24 inches loss after 3 treatments, 2 inches with 2 treatments, and no response in only 1% of their patients.
• Best results are on the abdomen, flank and submental area of the chin.
• Less response is the chin area and the inner and outer thighs.
• It does not work for skin laxity. It works on dissolving fat.
• The May study showed a decrease of 7.45 cm (3.8 inches) after 4 treatments.
• The Asaidi study showed 2.5 inches in the thighs and 4.2 inches in the waist and 2 dress sizes down but no weight loss.
• Rittes found that in 500 patients that she followed for 4 years the fat didn’t return unless the patient gained more that 8.8 pounds.
• Rotunda in his study noted that 30% of his patients didn’t respond in treatment of the lower eyelids.

Future
The goal at The Lee Clinic is to provide a non-surgical procedure to lessen fatty deposits. Fat is like an isolated island. It is hard to reach from the inside and to make a change. It is obviously affected by diet, exercise, sleep patterns, thyroid and hormonal imbalances. But there are areas of fat that need to be addressed directly. It is also unfair that fat makes estrogens and estrogens make fat and thus there is a vicious cycle. The PC/DC is felt to increase the lipase activity to dissolve the fat. And then macrophages eliminate the fat through the liver, GI and GU systems.

Iontophoresis uses an electrical current and a vibrating system to drive the active substances thru the skin and into the fat without needles. It produces a tingling sensation that can be adjusted.

Since my background is Bio Identical Hormones delivered through the skin and having worked with compounding pharmacists it seemed logical that there was a way to deliver medications with out needles. Thus a special solution was developed using PC/DC as its base. The following is the preliminary study. We plan to use skin/fat calipers to more accurately evaluate fat loss in the future.
